About the Shell logo
The Shell logo is the Pecten, a scallop shell drawn in bright yellow (#FBCE07) with a thick red (#DD1D21) outline and red lines that fan out from the hinge to divide it into ridges. The shape is perfectly symmetrical and rests on a short base, which makes it look solid and dependable. The red and yellow are thought to come from the colours of the Spanish flag, chosen when Shell built early service stations in California, and they are easy to spot from the road. The current drawing was designed by Raymond Loewy in 1971.
